General Information

 

Trail running is challenging and fun. Bring with you the following items to ensure your safety and enjoyment.

 

·         Trail running or running shoes

·         Dress in light layers that are easily removable

·         Water or electrolyte drink

·         Snack, particularly for longer runs (always bring at least 1-2 more items then you think you’ll need)

·         Camera

·         First aid items

o   Bandaids

o   Aspirin

o   Sunscreen

·         Sunglasses

·         Cell phone (not all areas get reception)—make sure it is FULLY charged

·         Emergency contact information in case you get separated (I will carry information as well)

·         Map of the area (many trailheads have maps available)

 

Nice to have, but not essential

·         Trail running shoes

·         Trail pack or hydration pack

·         Compass, provided you can read one

 

Suggestions for trail running snacks

·         Gu, Clif Shot Blox, Sports Jelly Beans

·         Peanut butter and jelly sandwich

·         Fig Newtons

·         Peanut butter filled pretzels

·         Small candies

·         Boiled potatoes in salt (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it)

·         Powerbars or other granola type bars that won’t crumble

Run One: December 27

Redmond Watershed Preserve

·         Wooded trail

·         Rating: Easy, relatively flat

·         Mileage: 4 miles easy running

·         Terrain: Wooded wide trails, roots, some hills

·         Obstacles: horses, stay right. Horses always have the right of way. Stop running if you approach them. Mountain bikes.

·         Meet: noon in Redmond Watershed Park parking lot

·         Run will start at approximately 12:30. and take about 45 minutes to an hour

·         Preserve is approximately a 45 minute drive from Marysville.

Description of Run

·         Start at parking lot, run into the preserve.

·         Turn right at the Pipeline Regional Trail.

·         Turn right at junction of Pipeline and Siler’s Mill Trail (stay to the right)

·         At junction of Siler’s Mill and Collin Creek Trail, stay left.

·         Collin Creek to Pipeline Trail

·         Pipeline Trail, stay right and head toward Trillium Trail

·         Left on Trillium Trail back to trailhead


 

Run Two: January 24, 2010

Paradise Valley Trails, Woodinville

·         Forest and open trail

·         Rating: Easy to moderate

·         Mileage: 3-5 miles

·         Terrain: Forest, shared trails (watch for mt bikes), new trails

·         Run will start at approximately 12:30 p.m. and take about 1-2  hours

Paradise Valley

Description of Run

·         Start at trailhead heading out on the Mainline Trail

·         Left at waypoint 19 continuing on Mainline Trail towards Southern Traverse Trail

·         Past Mt. Bike Park (on left) down to waypoint 11, turn onto Southern Traverse Trail

·         Follow Southern Traverse Trail to waypoint 15. Turn left at 15 onto the Wetland Plateau Trail.

·         This trail meets back up with the Mainline Trail, but we're not going home yet!

·         Right at waypoint 16 to waypoint 5, the Cascara Trail. Turn left onto Cascara.

·         Nice twisty little trail that will take you to the 106th Drive Trail where you'll turn left (or really go straight) at waypoint 7 heading to waypoint 8.

·         Left at 8 back onto the Mainline Trail and back to the trailhead.


Run Three: February 21

Lord Hill Park, Snohomish

·         Wilderness Island

·         Rating: Easy

·         Mileage: 5-6 miles

·         Terrain: Rolling hills, forest, well maintained

·         Run will start at approximately 11:15 a.m. and take about 1-2  hours

Description of Run

·         Head out of entrance onto the Boardwalks

·         Left onto Beaver Lake Trail

·         Follow around to Pipeline Trail

·         Left at the Temple Pond Loop Run around the pond until we hit Pipeline again

·         Left onto Pipeline Trail

·         Run out to Temple Pond Viewpoint…try to see beavers

·         Back onto Pipeline, then right onto Main Trail

·         Follow Main Trail around until hit back to the edge of the park

·         Right onto Beaver Lake Trail

·         Left onto the Boardwalk

Run Four: March 28 (not 21)

Cougar Mountain, Issaquah

·         Mountainous trail

·         Rating: Moderate

·         Mileage: 6 miles technical hiking/walking/running

·         Terrain: Forest, rocks, roots, trolls

·         March 28, 2010

·         Meet: 9 a.m. at Jennings Park (we can carpool to this park)

·         Run will start at approximately 10:30 a.m. and take about 3-4  hours

·         Carpool from Jennings Park (6915 Armar Road, Marysville)

 

Directions
From Seattle, east on I-90 to exit 15.

Right (south) onto Highway 900 for 3.1 miles to trailhead on the right.

 

 

Wilderness Creek (Cougar Mountain)

Description of Run

·         Start on E6

·         L at Wilderness Creek Trail

·         Shy Bear Trail S2

·         R onto Fred’s Railroad Trail C7

·         Right at East Fork Trail C8

·          Left at Mine Shaft Trail C10

·         Look around mine shaft a bit, take pictures, snack

·         Continue on C10 left at Clay Pit Road

·         Right at N5 Klondike Swamp Trail

·         Right at N8 Cougar Pass Trail

·         Left at N7 Anti-Aircraft Trail

·         Break at anti-aircraft site…this was the Nike Anti-Aircraft site set up in case of invasion…it was never used.

·         Turn around on trail and continue back
